Today, Jake Barton from Local Projects came and gave a wonderful talk at the Hartford Art School about interaction and media design. They just opened the National Museum of American Jewish History, designed the Official New York City Visitors Center, were responsible for the design of Story Corps, and are key players in the National September 11th Memorial and Museum.
It was great to be able to speak to Jake after his talk for a couple moments. I shared with him my thoughts on how recently I have found the process of graphic design to be almost more rewarding than the actual final product itself.
I made the connection to interaction design by realizing that what you are doing is creating a framework and platform for user to design their own experience and process of interaction. The idea being that you never really design the final product and that it is in fact a living thing. This notion to me is remarkable and one of the reasons why the field of interaction design keeps getting more interesting to me.
